Senior Quantity Surveyor
Location: Thames region – North / West / Central London
Salary: £60,000 – £75,000 + excellent benefits
Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time (42.5 hours per week)

The Role
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a busy civil engineering delivery team working across water and utilities projects in the Thames region.
This is a key commercial role within project teams, supporting project delivery and senior management through effective cost control, commercial reporting and contractual management. Projects range in value from £200k to £10m+, spanning frameworks, bespoke schemes and reactive works.
You will play a pivotal role in driving commercial performance, identifying opportunities, managing risk and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Management

Accurate and timely cost and value reporting at project and business unit level

Preparation and maintenance of monthly CVRs, cost plans and commercial forecasts

Cash flow forecasting and cash management

Procurement, negotiation and financial management of subcontractors

Preparation of applications for payment through to final account

Management of change, variations, claims and additional payment discussions

Identification and realisation of commercial opportunities

Protecting the business from commercial and contractual risk

Advising site teams on cost control, efficiencies and best practice
Contracts & Procurement

Management of main contracts and subcontracts (NEC and IChemE forms)

Ensuring contract terms align with internal governance and risk appetite

Subcontract procurement and post-contract management
-
Supply chain management and relationship building
Processes & Governance

Compliance with internal commercial processes and reporting timelines

Supporting continuous improvement of systems, procedures and ways of working
About You
Essential
-
Proven experience within the construction or civil engineering sector
-
Strong knowledge of NEC and/or IChemE forms of contract
-
Experience managing subcontract procurement and commercial processes
-
Demonstrable experience in cost forecasting, CVRs and financial reporting

Sound understanding of construction law

Excellent communication, numerical and IT skills (Microsoft Office)

Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
Desirable
-
HND / Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying

Working towards or holding membership of RICS (or similar)

CSCS card
-
Experience in water or utilities projects

Experience working within a self-delivery contractor environment

Estimating experience
