About the client: This opportunity is with a well-established rail infrastructure contractor that operates across the UK, delivering major projects on behalf of Network Rail and other key clients. Known for its collaborative project delivery, strong commercial performance, and reputation for repeat business, they are now seeking a senior quantity surveyor to support ongoing and upcoming rail works frameworks.
About the role: The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all commercial aspects of rail infrastructure projects, ensuring contract compliance, accurate reporting, and cost control throughout the project lifecycle. You’ll play a key part in supporting the project team, mentoring junior staff, and liaising directly with clients and subcontractors to ensure commercial performance is optimised.
Key responsibilities:
Manage the full commercial cycle from pre-contract through to final accounts
Oversee subcontract procurement, valuations, and payments
Provide detailed cost reports and forecasts to senior commercial leadership
Ensure compliance with NEC contracts and client commercial procedures
Lead the resolution of claims, variations, and compensation events
Liaise with delivery teams to track and maximise project value
Support and develop junior quantity surveyors within the team
About you: You will be an experienced and commercially astute senior quantity surveyor with a strong background in rail or infrastructure projects. You will be confident working in a fast-paced environment, capable of managing multiple workstreams, and effective in both client-facing and delivery team roles.
Essential requirements:
Proven experience in a senior quantity surveyor role within rail or infrastructure
Strong working knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts
Experience delivering projects within a framework environment
Excellent commercial acumen and reporting skills
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
Strong interpersonal skills and team leadership ability
