My client is a leading UK civil engineering and infrastructure contractor with over 40 years’ experience delivering complex projects across the Water, Transport, Energy and Built Environment sectors.

With more than 1,200 employees nationwide and an in-house workforce spanning tunnelling, MEICA, design, fabrication and specialist services, they deliver major frameworks, joint ventures, alliances and standalone projects ranging from £200k to £10m+.
They are now seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team and support the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
The Role
As Quantity Surveyor, you will provide commercial expertise to project teams, ensuring accurate reporting, strong cost control and full compliance with contractual requirements. You will work closely with both internal stakeholders and client representatives, helping to identify, track and realise commercial opportunities while mitigating risk for the business.
You will be responsible for supporting multiple projects of varying scale, value and complexity—ranging from planned works to emergency response activities—ensuring efficient commercial delivery and alignment with the organisation’s core objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting

Produce accurate, timely and robust cost and value reports at project and business unit level.

Prepare and maintain cashflow forecasts.

Manage cost forecasting and support monthly CVR updates.

Maintain all cost and commercial plans in line with company standards.
Processes

Ensure internal commercial procedures are consistently followed.

Proactively identify opportunities to improve commercial processes.

Understand the commercial processes of joint ventures/alliances and support their development.
External Relationships

Support contract reviews to ensure terms and conditions are appropriate and risks are understood.

Engage the supply chain with suitable contract terms.

Build and maintain strong client relationships.

Manage subcontract procurement, negotiation and financial control.

Prepare and submit applications for payment.

Liaise with clients and third parties regarding variations, claims and additional payments.
Internal Relationships

Work collaboratively with operational teams to ensure accurate forecasting and cash recovery.

Provide commercial guidance to site teams on cost management.

Share best practice across the business.
About You
Essential
-
Previous experience within the construction or civil engineering industry.
-
HND/Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying.

Good working knowledge of ICE/NEC forms of contract and construction law.

Experience in commercial management and subcontract procurement (meetings, measurement, accruals, certificates).

Strong monthly reporting and earned value analysis experience.

Skilled in estimation and cost analysis.

Excellent communication, numeracy and IT skills, with strong Microsoft Office capability.

Highly organised, able to work to deadlines and operate both independently and as part of a team.
