Location: Cambridgeshire, UK
I am currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established construction and civil engineering contractor with an impressive presence across the UK. Operating on projects ranging from small-scale works through to multi-million-pound developments, they are recognised for delivering schemes across earthworks, infrastructure, and wider civils projects. With a strong annual turnover and a sizeable workforce, they are a market leader within their sector and continue to grow through repeat business and trusted client relationships.
This opportunity is for an Estimator, responsible for pricing small works through to projects valued at up to £50 million.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and prepare competitive tenders with a focus on maximising margins and securing work.
- Review and interpret tender documentation, drawings, and scopes of work.
- Accurately measure and validate quantities for pricing purposes.
- Develop rates from first principles, considering labour, plant, and materials.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering to offer cost-effective solutions.
- Obtain and analyse subcontractor quotations and market rates.
- Provide prompt responses to client queries throughout the tender process.
- Factor in programme and buildability considerations within submissions.
- Ensure effective handover of successful tenders to project delivery teams.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients.
- Mentor and support junior colleagues within the estimating function.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven background in estimating for bulk earthworks and civil engineering projects.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to problem-solve effectively.
- A methodical and adaptable approach to work.
- Proficient with IT and basic software applications.
- Familiarity with ConQuest and Maximiser CRM would be advantageous.
