Design Manager - Rail - Southern Ireland

This company is preparing to undertake the design of one of the largest upgrades on the Irish rail system and requires an exceptional Design Manager!

This opportunity will see you lead the team managing the delivery of the design in order to achieve high quality, safe, compliant and timely design at the lowest achievable cost.

Working with the Joint Venture partners to develop the project from concept through to railway order, you will coordinate the design discipline leads for each area ensuring that all aspects of the project (e.g. civil engineering, building works, signalling, Overhead Line, M&E and track) are completed in a timely manner.

As the Design Manager you will be responsible for:

• Providing line management duties to an existing team of 8 Discipline Leads across areas including civil engineering, building works, signalling, Overhead Line, M&E and track.
• Planning and managing the successful delivery of the project
• Technical quality of deliverables – undertaking checks of design deliverables completed by members of the team in accordance with company procedures.
• Reviewing personal / team budgets and resourcing to achieve financial and programme targets.

To be considered for this role the successful Design Manager will ideally have the following background and experience:

• Demonstrable experience within a similar Design Leadership role within an appropriately sized Consultancy organisation working on projects in the region of €10m.
• Previous experience in the Rail environment
• A structured career history.
• Degree or higher level qualification in a numerate discipline typically in Engineering.
• Membership of an appropriate Professional body, e.g. Chartered Member of Institute of Civil Engineering.
