CAD Technician - Rail - Yorkshire

£25,000 - £37,000 (negotiable depending on skills and experience) plus benefits - Tunnel - Design

Do you have at least 5 years' experience in underground structures and tunnelling, Temporary Works, with an (engineering) design consultancy? If so, this could be the next big step in your CAD career!

Overview:

Approaching its 40th birthday, this is one of the biggest and leading tunnelling sub-contractors in the UK, following this success they are developing their presence in the Middle East market too.

What can they do?

Typical projects are from complex and intricate tunnelling sequencing, which require traditional hand tunnelling techniques, as well as to novel pioneering construction methods on large-scale tunnelling projects. An example being Crossrail and Thames Tideway.

This great company has a name for itself in underground construction, but have now also obtained a solid reputation for quality construction work of above ground structures for residential developments, based on low to high-rise concrete frames.

As a mark of their hard work and on-going successes, they are creating a new internal design team to continue delivering excellence in tunnelling and construction. This means there is a phenomenal opportunity for a CAD Technician to support the Design and Build of Temporary Works, in projects across the UK.

Role Summary of the CAD Technician:

The CAD Technician will join the new in-house design division to provide CAD drafting detailing expertise to support the divisions of the business.

Some of the key duties will be to produce:

  • Engineering drawings; from rough sketches to as-built detail
  • Engineering design calculations of basic structural form to size up structural elements.
  • Reinforcement detailing drawing to construction standard
  • Relay engineering drawings from design and standard detailing practice
  • Visually pleasing drawings to adequate engineering detail, and the simplest form for construction.
  • Drawings to the required standard and procedure

Important traits that will see you to success include:

  • Ability to work collaboratively within the engineering team, but also be self sufficient
  • Promoting and contributing to the successful completion of projects
  • Taking responsibility
  • Meet or exceed deliverable deadline
  • Using initiative to prepare standard detailing for repetitive structural forms, to develop an economical and streamlined work process.

Qualifications and Skills of the chosen CAD Technician:

  • Advanced experience user of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation with 3D modelling experience preferred.
  • Other software experience of interest: Solidworks, other 3D modelling software and Engineering design software (under guidance).
  • Superior planning and organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and to multiple project deadlines;
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Confident decision making skills
  • Degree educated - or equivalent
  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills
  • Keen to develop engineering skills
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years' experience with expertise in underground structures / tunnelling temporary works and having worked within a design consultancy environment.
  • Possess team leader qualities, and assist to support, mentor and develop junior Draftsmen.
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations, design risk assessment process in line with CDM (and) H&S regulations.
