Senior Civil Engineer - Rail

My client currently has an opportunity for a Senior Rail Engineer in order to help successfully deliver civil and structural engineering solutions to a range of their clients in the South West.

This is an exciting and challenging role within a supportive team, with a buoyant workload and a variety of challenges.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake the following key activities:

  • Production of outline and detailed design solutions
  • Report writing.
  • Use of design software, including SuperStress.
  • Hand calculations.
  • Management of CAD resources
  • Mentorship of junior staff.
  • Client liaison
  • Liaise with internal and external sub contractors
  • Involvement with cost management, tenders, invoicing of projects
  • Client presentations
  • Supervision of site work
  • Undertake safety critical responsibilities within a railway environment.

Skills

  • Ability to work both independently, and as part of a team
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office
  • Good attention to detail
  • Flexibility in working patterns
  • Excellent communication skills

The successful candidate should be able to:

  • Work without supervision,
  • Lead a team of engineers.
  • To produce neat clear calculations in a structured format.
  • Translate designs into engineering drawings, schedules and current specifications
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Railway Standards

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Driving license essential
  • PTS desirable

Experience

  • Practical experience of civil engineering works, preferably within a consultancy environment, including:
  • Bridge / structures design and / or assessment
  • Bridge / structures inspection
  • Drainage and earthworks design and remediation
  • Surveying / setting out
  • Experience of managing programmes of work on-time and within budget
  • Experience of the rail industry would be advantageous, but is not essential
