To be considered for this role, it is essential that you be a fully chartered engineer with extensive experience in Rail Civils.
You will be working as a integral part of the Crossrail Project - Crossrail will introduce a new train service from West to East under London. It requires extensive alterations to Network Rail's infrastructure through some of the most congested and complex parts of the mainline network. These alterations are complex engineering projects in their own right. There are multiple interfaces across all disciplines and with the core section under London. It is vital that the network remains operational during construction. A project engineering team has been formed to develop and drive forward the engineering of Network Rail's projects across the overall Programme.
The client are looking for a Senior Structural Design Engineer to be responsible for the Civil and Structural Engineering development of allocated proposals from clarification of remit, to project completion, developing the engineering solutions to proposals to best satisfy the business case.
The successful candidate will have worked for Network Rail previously, either through a sub-contractor, consultancy, or direct; in order to be familiar with our frameworks and procedures, and additionally have a solid career history within Rail and Civils.
The post is of a senior level, and the candidate will ultimately be expected to authorise Approvals of Design and Approvals in Principle, therefore previous experience in this area is essential.
Other key requirements are:
- Conversancy with all aspects of rail civil and structural engineering i.e. bridges, stations, depots and the standards which apply to them.
- Ability to review and constructively comment on third party produced proposals for new build, alteration, refurbishment and reconstruction schemes to ensure compliance with Railway Group and Network Rail standards and policy.
- Appreciation of the need for civil and structural engineering assets which are fit for purpose, have a high safety ranking, have affordable capital cost and low maintenance costs.
- a sympathetic approach to Heritage, energy conservation, environmental and disable access requirements and be able to apply them to an operational railway environment in line with Network Rail policies.
