Project Engineer - Civils

My client (Network Rail) is currently looking for a Project Engineer to join their Infrastructure Investment team. Based in Manchester, you will be involved with the design and construction of civil works, mainly bridges and earthworks. Rail experience is not essential; however a strong background in design and construction is a must, with at least 5 years experience in the disciplines.

You will review and accept designs on behalf of Network Rail for Civil engineering works; being responsible for ensuring compliance with legislation and civil engineering standards and procedures for design and construction. You shall also provide engineering advice to the Designated Project Engineer and Project Manager with respect to the progression of the works forming the civils programme, general design & construction activities and site supervision.

You will be required to manage the civil engineering approvals process, respond to technical queries and review and accept work package plans for planned civil engineering work activities. They shall liaise with external contractors and internal project managers and implement and maintain robust systems and procedures that ensure a cost effective, high quality and totally safe approach to the works. Whilst in this role you will report to the Senior Project Engineer as part of a multi disciplined team of Project Engineers.

The following are essential to be considered for the role:

  • Significant experience in the Civil Engineering discipline.
  • Membership of relevant professional institution, or working towards.
  • Demonstrable involvement in design and construction projects covering multiple disciplines.
  • HNC/HND, GNVQ or equivalent qualifications.
  • Detailed understanding of assurance.
  • An understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of work.

The following are desirable:

  • Knowledge of the structure of safety cases in the support of projects.
  • Appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works.
  • Holder of PTS/IWA qualifications.
