The Thameslink Programme is a £3.5bn rail infrastructure project that will enhance the rail network to and through London, delivering clear and tangible benefits for millions of people. The plans would significantly increase capacity on the over-ground railway to and through London, via King's Cross St. Pancras in the north and Blackfriars and London Bridge in the south.
What will the Thameslink Programme deliver?
- More regular, more direct and easier journeys for business and leisure travellers
- A substantial increase in the number of trains travelling through the heart of London (St. Pancras to Blackfriars) during peak times increasing capacity from 8 to 24 trains per hour in each direction.
- Longer and less overcrowded trains on main commuter routes.
- Less need to change to London Underground or other overland trains for many popular journeys.
- Investment and redevelopment at London Bridge, Farringdon and Blackfriars stations.
- Improved access for those in South London to job opportunities in North London
- Removal of the bottlenecks around London Bridge.
- Direct interchange with the Eurostar at King's Cross St. Pancras.
- Upgrades at over 50 outer stations to facilitate longer trains.
- New direct journeys to Gatwick Airport from areas north of London.
Post Description
The Project Manager is responsible for working with project teams in Stations, Civils and Railway Systems to identify their Operational Readiness responsibilities, and working with them to jointly deliver those responsibilities in time.
- 1. Deliver the project(s) safely to time, cost and quality, in accordance with the Guide to Railway Investment Projects (GRIP), applicable Railway Group, company standards and other specific legislation including construction design management (CDM) Regulations.
- 2. Provide a professional, first class, consistent and effective project management service to the clients, including project monitoring and reporting systems in accordance with Railway Group, company standards and guidelines.
- 3. Participate in the development of supply strategies and framework contracts.
- 4. Provide detailed input for compilation of the business plan and production of the possessions plan.
- 5. Control project change, risks and contingency within the project life cycle and provide all cost, contingency and programme details to enable the Sponsor to obtain authorisation for portfolios/projects.
- 6. Provide a safe working environment in the execution of work directly under the post holder's responsibility, including development of project safety plans and other associated documentation.
- 7. Act as CDM Planning Supervisor as directed.
- 8. Identify training needs in safety, technical and management areas for the personnel reporting to the post holder and contribute to their personal development.
- 9. Undertake accident investigations when remitted to by the relevant designated competent person.
- 10. Comply with the Investment Competence Framework.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Relevant successful experience in project management
- Degree qualified within construction
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Detailed knowledge of safety regulations (particularly CDM)
- Team leader capable of motivating the team
- Commercial and financial understanding and knowledge
- Accident Investigation experience
Desirable
- Membership of the Association for Project Management or other professional body
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt
- A degree or equivalent
- Knowledge of investment processes and procedures
- Knowledge and understanding of project and contract management
