Description:

A leading power company in Power Transmission and Distribution has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious senior Civil Engineer to undertake the role of Department Manager- Civil. You will need to have a background working with consultants, architects and design contractors specialised in the areas of HV & EHV Substations. The main responsibility is to plan, direct and co-ordinate the operations of civil engineering department and to create and maintain systems and procedures for operating efficiency. The perspective candidate for this position is required to manage departmental staff for optimum performance, coordinate with other functional department heads and the partner organisations.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Management of multi discipline technical resources in highly competitive transmission and distribution market
  • Experienced in successful implementation of engineering projects within High Voltage Industry, and preferably for National Grid
  • Understanding of CDM and all related legislations for work within UK
  • Interfacing and co-ordination with other Disciplines
  • Familiarisation with International Standards
  • Computer literate, and familiar with at least project planning tool.
  • Determine staffing requirements based on the project workload.
  • Hire and train new staff to meet business requirements
  • Supervise direct reporting staff according to overall company policy
  • Set employee goals and objectives, develop staff to maximize potential and above all monitor staff performance including performance reviews
  • Delegate work duties to staff
  • Allocate use of available resources in accordance with the needs of the project
  • Monitor and assist staff with work progress to ensure targets are achieved
  • Evaluate current business processes and systems and plan and implement procedures and systems to maximize operating efficiency
  • Establish and maintain controls
  • Formulate department/unit policies and practices
  • Co-ordinate budget activities for maximum operational efficiency
  • Facilitate the preparation and analysis of reports
  • Review performance data to monitor and measure productivity, goal progress and activity levels
  • Responsible for the achievement of department and quality goals
  • Organize and manage business meetings

Short-term travel may be involved in UK and overseas for equipment inspection and assistance with equipment installation and commissioning. You’ll have a BSc. Civil / Structural Engineering or HNC/HND Chartered Engineer (Preferred)
