STREET LIGHTING DESIGN TEAM LEADER

Description:

Due to current workloads from the Highways Agency, we are looking for an experienced Street Lighting Engineer to deliver the designs for street lighting, sign lighting and electrical connections to the highways team and provide lighting / electrical advice for other schemes.


Job responsibilities:

  • Continuously monitor the performance of the lighting asset and identify areas of weakness.
  • Understand the condition of the lighting asset and identify areas where it needs improvement.
  • Develop an annually updated forward programme of renewals and improvements to the lighting asset and agree this with the Programme Manager.
  • Maintain the lighting database and ensure it is up to date.
  • Identify schemes that need to be considered in the Four Year Programme
  • Aid the Bid Managers in the CVM process.
  • Professional and Technical Excellence in lighting / electrical engineering.
  • Manage the workload for street lighting and electrical design to deliver the agreed outcomes for lighting and other renewal and improvement schemes.
  • Provide advice to other teams in association with the Technical Manager.
  • Ensure that the street lighting team has adequate training and resources in association with the Technical Manager.
  • Manage external resources used for Street Lighting design in association with the Technical Manager.
  • Agree the briefs, programmes and budgets with the schemes Project Managers / Design Managers.
  • Monitor the designs produced to ensure they meet the design briefs set by the Delivery Teams.
  • Ensure designs, studies, surveys and investigations are appropriate and meet the expected levels of technical excellence.
  • Seek innovation in the delivery of schemes and techniques used to design and construct them.
  • Ensure the IQMS system is actively applied to all works.
  • Facilitate the Performance Measurement Manager and Business Improvement Manager in achieving targets and business improvement.
  • Be the technical expert in street lighting and electrical engineering.

You should be :

  • Chartered Electrical Engineer or equivalent relevant qualification
  • 10 years experience (preferably with 5 years in area maintenance)
  • Detailed knowledge of design codes, regulations and statutory requirements (DMRB / MCDHW/ Electrical Safety Regulations etc)
  • Knowledge of the HA procedures necessary to deliver a highways project
  • Knowledge of the use of computer design tools
  • Experience in the design and construction of highways schemes
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of street lighting design
  • Able to develop relationships and engender trust at all levels
  • Delegation skills and team building skills.
  • Strong communications skills to be able to unambiguously communicate targets, and priorities.
  • Open and willing to accept change and new ways of undertaking works in the EMAC
